In 't Aepjen
The facade of the building is remarkable for its wooden construction, a rarity in Amsterdam. Originally, many houses in the city were made of wood, but wooden façades were later banned due to fire hazards. 't Aepjen features a facade with overhanging floors, meaning each upper floor protrudes slightly over the one below. This design provided more space on the upper floors and was typical of medieval architectural styles.
In the 16th century, it was likely an inn where sailors stayed. In the 18th century, it served as a paper shop, and in the 19th century, it became a grocery store.
I found it challenging to replicate wood with Lego. It truly is an incredible house to recreate!
